First time mom here,
It’s finally my turn to go to a baby shower after having a baby. This list came up as I figured out what to buy my friend.
Below I share 5 items I found useful as a FTM. Friendly reminder though, don’t forget to buy off the parent’s registry.
I had two baby showers and absolutely loved both. I received so many great gifts and loved them all! Diapers and wipes are a must but those won’t be on my list. These are the items I would buy again if they hadn’t been gifted to me.
Here is my list of top 5 things I am considering getting my friend whose baby shower I am attending this weekend.
Dreft Detergent- I recently bought a bottle of Dreft detergent again, and the moment I opened it, I was hit with the sweetest wave of memories. That soft, signature newborn scent took me right back to those early days in the hospital—tiny swaddles, sleepy cuddles, and the overwhelming love of meeting her for the first time. It’s wild how a smell can bring you right back to a moment you never want to forget.
Zip-up sleepers- This is an absolute must! As a C-section mom, I found it so much easier to use at home—especially when I couldn’t comfortably lean over the bassinet or crib to lay her down. Traditional swaddling with a blanket didn’t work for us; she’d wiggle her arms free or the swaddle would come undone during those midnight feedings. While the ones I used were hand-me-downs, I’ve linked a few I’d personally buy (or gift!) for another new mama below.
Safety 1st bundle-I made the mistake of not bringing a nail clipper to the hospital and her nails were so long when she was born. This bundle came with a nail clipper and other useful tools like a comb, a thermometer, and nasal aspirator. While my hospital gave us a lot of things for baby including a nasal aspirator. I would say keep this in your diaper bag once you’re home and pack the nail clippers in your hospital bag it is much needed.
Stroller Fan-My ObGyn was my absolute favorite and would love to have her again, she was so personable. She suggested I bring a fan because when she had her twins she felt so hot and the AC was just not doing it to cool her down. I was gifted one and I bought the other I’ll link both below. The one I was gifted I used it as my extra stroller fan, however it did not fit the hospital beds side panel, it is quite powerful though. The other one I bought was a twisty tripod like fan that also lit up had various airflow speeds. This one my husband was able to place on the side of my bed at the hospital. I used it after giving birth and let me tell you it was a life saver (c-section mom) but I heard it is good to use for while you’re in labor naturally too. Now we use it for our daughter’s car seat and stroller since we live in one of the hottest cities in Nevada.
Mamaway Sling Carrier-I found this sling and fell in love. I used it on our first day back at church and it was perfect for holding babygirl and also for breastfeeding her. It is made from breathable material and is so versatile to use. This is my top favorite from this list.
